What Australian employers expect
Use these as starting points, then follow the employer’s instructions. The University of Sydney’s guidance and Queensland Government resume guidance support clear, relevant applications.
- Put relevant experience and evidence where the reader can find it: Australian resume guide.
- Review length in the actual file, with the role and career stage in mind: resume length guide.
- Use personal details selectively; a photo or date of birth is not normally needed in the university’s general template: photo and personal-details guide.
- Choose clear headings and wording you can support: ATS-friendly resume guide.
- Make dates and referee information easy to check: referees guide.

This text checklist cannot inspect a document’s page layout. Open an Australian resume example to see Offer Underway’s Modern template, with matching skills highlighted. Compare the headings and experience bullets with your own file; then explore the templates available in the resume builder.
Questions about the resume checklist
Does the checklist give an ATS score?
No. It reports pass, check or not applicable for specific text rules. It cannot measure your suitability for a job or predict an employer’s ATS result.
Is my resume uploaded or saved?
No. The checklist runs locally in your browser and keeps no stored copy of your pasted resume. Closing or leaving this page clears the in-memory form.
Can it tell how many pages my file has?
Only approximately: it divides the pasted word count by 500. Fonts, spacing, columns and graphics change the actual page count, so review the rendered document and follow the employer’s instructions.
Should I accept every suggestion?
No. Use each flag as a prompt to review the file. Academic applications, regulated roles, specific employer instructions, proper names and quoted text can need different treatment.
Want a version tailored to a specific job?
Bring your career history and the job ad to the resume builder, then review the draft against your actual experience.
